The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has urged 13 newly decorated Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 17 Commissioners of Police to justify their promotions by providing exemplary leadership and discharging the responsibilities of their new ranks with integrity, humility and professionalism.
The officers were formally decorated on Monday during a ceremony held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, marking their elevation to the senior ranks of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement, saying the Inspector-General described the promotions as recognition of years of dedicated and meritorious service, while reminding the officers that their new positions come with greater responsibility.
“The Inspector-General congratulated the newly promoted officers, describing their elevation as a call to step into higher responsibility within the Force,” Iniedu said.
According to the statement, Disu acknowledged the sacrifices made by the officers throughout their careers, noting that many had missed family celebrations, birthdays and other personal milestones in the course of serving the nation.
He also commended the families of the promoted officers for their support and sacrifices, describing them as critical partners in the officers’ professional journey.
Charging the officers on their new responsibilities, the Inspector-General urged them to place the welfare of officers under their command at the heart of their leadership.
“The Inspector-General urged them to lead with uncompromising integrity and humanity, stressing that officers who genuinely fight for the welfare of the men and women they command will, in turn, earn their loyalty and support,” Iniedu stated.
Disu further challenged the newly promoted officers to strengthen public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force through their conduct, mentor younger officers and wear their new ranks with humility.
“He charged them to build public confidence in the Force through their conduct and decisions, mentor the younger officers who look up to them, and wear their ranks with humility as much as with pride,” the statement added.
The ceremony witnessed the decoration of 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 17 Commissioners of Police in the presence of senior government officials, traditional rulers, heads of security agencies, political leaders and family members.
The Force spokesman said the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to the welfare, professional development and operational readiness of its personnel as it continues efforts to build a more professional, accountable and service-oriented police institution.
