Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated a ₦100 million business recapitalisation grant to 2,000 women petty traders in Jigawa State, reaffirming her commitment to supporting small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) as a catalyst for sustainable economic development.
The grant, under which each beneficiary will receive ₦50,000, was announced on Monday at the palace of the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje, during the commencement of the First Lady’s one-day official visit to the state.
Mrs. Tinubu said empowering women-owned small businesses remains central to efforts aimed at strengthening household incomes, promoting financial inclusion and stimulating economic growth.
“Our commitment to the promotion of small and medium-scale businesses remains strong because the sector is a foundation for sustainable development in our country,” she said.
The First Lady explained that the ₦100 million intervention would provide much-needed support to women engaged in petty trading, enabling them to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
As part of her visit, Mrs. Tinubu is also expected to flag off the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-West geopolitical zone.
She will equally inaugurate a number of projects executed by the Jigawa State Government, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy and the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic.
The visit forms part of ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting social welfare, food security and economic empowerment, particularly for women and vulnerable groups across the country.
