The Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), May Agbamuche-Mbu, on Tuesday held a consultative meeting with chairmen and secretaries of political parties at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, which was her first official engagement with political parties since assuming office in an acting capacity, forms part of INEC’s ongoing consultations with stakeholders ahead of the Anambra State Governorship Election slated for November 8, 2025.
According to a statement posted on INEC’s official X account, the interactive session provided an avenue for robust discussions with political parties on critical issues relating to the conduct of the upcoming election.
In her remarks, Agbamuche-Mbu outlined the Commission’s level of preparedness, revealing that INEC had already completed 10 out of the 13 key activities in the timetable for the Anambra poll.
She noted that the remaining activities include the publication of the Notice of Poll on October 25, 2025, and the end of campaign activities on November 6, 2025.
The Acting INEC Chairman assured political stakeholders that the Commission was working closely with security agencies at all levels to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible election process.
“INEC remains committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process. We urge all political parties to strictly adhere to the timetable and schedule of activities,” Agbamuche-Mbu stated.
She also briefed party leaders on the Commission’s recent engagements, including the bye-elections held on August 16, 2025, and preparations for the FCT Area Council Elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
Agbamuche-Mbu expressed appreciation for the contributions of former INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, acknowledging his efforts in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic processes.
