The moving story of 12-year-old Ramon Adeleye has become a testament to how compassion, collaboration and timely medical intervention can change a life forever.
Ramon had lived with a painful surgical condition since birth, one that worsened each time he played football or engaged in physical activity.
In search of relief, he fled his home in Ogun State and travelled alone to Lagos, eventually finding his way to General Hospital, Isolo, where he attempted to buy pain medication without a prescription.
According to Mordi Patricia, Public Affairs, Isolo General Hospital, Ramon’s unusual request immediately drew the attention of the Medical Social Welfare Department and the Public Affairs Office.
“Our team intervened quickly to understand his situation, trace his family and ensure he received proper medical attention,” she said.
A medical evaluation led by Dr. Olaniyan Adewale revealed that the boy urgently required corrective surgery, an operation his family had been unable to afford for years. With support from Mr. Arinze Achebe of the Medical Social Welfare Department, generous Nigerians came forward to sponsor the procedure after hearing Ramon’s story.
The Medical Director/CEO, Dr. Saliu Oseni, provided full backing to the surgical and welfare teams, ensuring the boy received comprehensive care throughout his treatment.
Ramon’s sister, Mrs. Olorunsola Omolayo, expressed deep appreciation to the hospital management and all who rallied around her brother.
She thanked the MD/CEO, Dr. Saliu Oseni; the surgical team led by Dr. Adewale Olaniyan; the Public Affairs Officer, Mrs. Patricia Mordi; and the Medical Social Welfare Department, especially Mr. Arinze Achebe.
She also prayed for the benefactors whose generosity made the surgery possible.
The procedure has since been successfully completed, and Ramon is recovering steadily while attending follow-up appointments at the outpatient clinic.
“I feel better,” the young boy said with a smile. “Dr. Adewale Olaniyan said I should not play football or lift heavy loads for now. God bless everyone that came to my aid.”
