The Kano State Police Command has rescued the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, after suspected bandits attacked Garun Mallam town in Garun Mallam Local Government Area and abducted the traditional title holder.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, when suspected bandits reportedly stormed the town and fired shots into the air.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the attack was reported to the police through a distress call.
Kiyawa said the attackers abducted Nadabo during the incident and shot three other residents.
The injured victims were identified as Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20, all residents of Garun Mallam.
He said police operatives, working with members of the community, immediately mobilised and pursued the attackers.
According to him, the pressure from the pursuing security team forced the suspected bandits to abandon the abducted traditional ruler and flee.
“Consequently, the bandits abandoned the kidnapped victim and fled the scene. Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt,” Kiyawa said.
The rescued traditional ruler and the three injured residents were subsequently taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
The Command said it had deployed confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Mallam town to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
It also said a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects, while investigation into the incident continued.
Kiyawa quoted the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, as commending the prompt response of the police teams and the cooperation of residents during the operation.
Bakori also appreciated members of the Vigilante and Neighbourhood Watch Corps for their vigilance, bravery and support in the rescue effort.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and continue to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in tracking down and arresting the suspects.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across Kano State.
