A man who allegedly abandoned his livelihood as a commercial motorcycle (okada) rider to join a transnational drug trafficking syndicate has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
According to the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the suspect was apprehended after excreting 100 wraps of methamphetamine allegedly ingested before his arrival in Nigeria from Uganda.
Babafemi disclosed the development in a post on his official X account, stating that the suspect had worked as an okada rider in Lagos for about 15 years before allegedly venturing into international drug trafficking.
“After 15 years of working as an Okada rider in Lagos, this individual decides he needs to forcefully upgrade and change his social status by joining a transnational drug trafficking organization,” Babafemi wrote.
“That dream has not only crumbled now but is ending in premium tears following his arrest at the Lagos airport by NDLEA officers after excreting a whopping 100 wraps of methamphetamine he ingested in far away Uganda,” he added.
The NDLEA spokesman did not disclose the identity of the suspect or the exact quantity of methamphetamine recovered.
The agency has continued to intensify surveillance and interdiction operations at the nation’s airports as part of efforts to dismantle transnational drug trafficking networks and prevent illicit drugs from entering or leaving the country.
