The Lagos State Government has sealed Ejanla Restaurant, located at 40 Fola Osibo Street, Lekki, for allegedly discharging raw sewage into public drains.
The enforcement was carried out on Thursday by officials of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) following complaints from residents about foul odours and environmental pollution in the area.
Confirming the development on his verified X handle, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said investigations revealed that the restaurant had installed a pumping system that diverted untreated wastewater directly into the public drainage network.
Wahab warned that such actions posed serious health and environmental risks, stressing that the state government would not hesitate to sanction violators.
“Every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions or prosecution,” he stated.
Residents in the Lekki neighbourhood had earlier raised concerns about unpleasant odours and visible pollutants flowing through nearby drains, prompting an inspection by the wastewater management authorities.
Following the investigation, the LSWMO concluded that the establishment’s discharge of raw sewage constituted a public health and environmental hazard, leading to its closure.
Commissioner Wahab urged other business owners and residents to adhere strictly to wastewater disposal regulations and report any unlawful or hazardous discharge to the authorities.
“We shall not tolerate businesses compromising the health of Lagosians by polluting our environment and misusing public infrastructure,” Wahab declared.
