The Lagos State Government has sealed off Global International College in Ikate-Elegushi, Lekki, for discharging untreated faecal sludge and wastewater into public drains. The enforcement action was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office on Saturday.According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the school’s actions were a clear violation of environmental regulations and posed a significant threat to public health. “The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office sealed off Global International College for deliberately discharging untreated faecal sludge and wastewater into public drains, causing public nuisance, pollution, and endangering human life,” Wahab stated.The commissioner revealed that the school had ignored repeated warnings from the agency, prompting the government to take decisive action. “Despite earlier cautions from regulatory authorities, the school failed to desist from this illegal act, leaving us no choice but to seal them off,” Wahab added.The government’s stance on environmental pollution is clear, with Wahab emphasizing that such actions would not be tolerated. “All environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions and/or prosecution,” he warned.Wahab urged Lagosians to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability. “It is essential that we all take responsibility for our actions and ensure that our environment is protected,” he said. “Lagosians are enjoined to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability.”The government’s action against the school serves as a warning to other institutions and individuals to comply with environmental regulations.
