The Lagos State Government is taking healthcare closer to the marketplace, reaffirming its commitment to providing accessible and affordable medical services to traders and residents through targeted community interventions.
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District V, Dr. Oladapo Asiyanbi, stated this during a free medical outreach organised in collaboration with Market Doctors at the Electronic Area Hall, Alaba International Market, Ojo Local Government Area.
Asiyanbi emphasised the importance of prioritising personal health, noting that good health remained essential to sustaining livelihoods, productivity and overall well-being.
He urged traders and other members of the Alaba market community to take advantage of the medical services provided during the outreach and seek timely medical attention whenever necessary.
The Permanent Secretary also encouraged participants to enrol in the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme, Ilera Eko, describing health insurance as an effective way of reducing the financial burden associated with healthcare.
He explained that the scheme provides access to a range of healthcare services and advised interested participants to obtain the necessary information and enrol through the appropriate channels.
According to Asiyanbi, the outreach was in line with the state government’s commitment to bringing healthcare services to communities, markets and other strategic locations where people live and conduct their businesses.
He noted that Alaba International Market, as a major commercial hub with a large population of traders and significant economic activities, required targeted health interventions that promote preventive care and early detection of health conditions.
Asiyanbi further commended Market Doctors for partnering with Lagos State Health District V to deliver the initiative, stressing that sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders was essential to expanding access to quality healthcare and improving health outcomes across communities.
The medical outreach provided traders and other members of the market community with access to health screening, medical consultations and other essential healthcare services.
Participants also received health education and preventive health messages aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging regular medical check-ups.
The Permanent Secretary urged members of the Alaba market community to make their health a priority by embracing preventive healthcare, undertaking regular health checks and promptly seeking appropriate medical attention when necessary.
The initiative forms part of the Lagos State Government’s continued efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, promote preventive healthcare and advance Universal Health Coverage in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
