The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has announced that the 2026 Annual Tree Planting Day will hold on Tuesday, July 14, calling on residents, corporate organisations, schools and community groups to participate in the state’s greening campaign.
The agency’s General Manager, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, made the announcement on Thursday, saying this year’s event, themed “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility,” is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, expanding green cover and encouraging residents to take ownership of environmental conservation efforts.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Public Affairs Unit, LASPARK, Biodun Adebayo, the annual exercise reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to combating climate change, improving air quality and creating a cleaner, healthier and more liveable environment under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Popoola called on individuals, corporate organisations, educational institutions and community groups to actively participate in the tree planting exercise, which will be held across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
“Tree planting is not just an event. It is a responsibility. As we plant on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, we are securing a greener and more sustainable Lagos for future generations,” she said.
She urged residents to support the initiative by planting, nurturing and protecting trees, stressing that environmental sustainability requires collective action.
“Let’s come together to plant, nurture and protect our trees. A greener Lagos starts with you,” Popoola added.
The agency said details of designated planting locations and participation guidelines for the 2026 Annual Tree Planting Day would be released in due course.
