The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has deployed 10 new compactor trucks to strengthen waste evacuation operations and improve refuse collection across Lagos State.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the additional trucks would enhance the agency’s operational capacity and improve service delivery, particularly as the state’s growing population continues to place increasing demand on waste management infrastructure.
He commended the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) for donating the vehicles, describing the gesture as a demonstration of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving public service delivery through collaboration among government agencies.
“This generous donation reinforces our capacity to deliver more efficient and reliable waste management services to Lagosians. As our population continues to grow, investments in critical operational assets such as these are essential to improving service delivery and sustaining a cleaner, healthier and more liveable city,” Gbadegesin said.
According to him, the newly acquired compactors have been strategically deployed to key operational corridors across the state to complement LAWMA’s existing fleet and improve the efficiency of waste collection.
He noted that the donation highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing environmental challenges, stressing that sustainable waste management requires continuous investment in modern equipment, innovation and strategic partnerships.
“Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility. We commend the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority for this timely intervention and for supporting our ongoing efforts to strengthen waste management operations. Together, we are building a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Lagos,” he added.
Gbadegesin assured residents that LAWMA would continue to optimise available resources, strengthen waste evacuation operations, intensify environmental enforcement and deepen community engagement to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.
He also called on other public institutions and corporate organisations to partner with the agency by investing in waste management infrastructure and initiatives that would enhance environmental sustainability and service delivery.
The LAWMA boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to deploying modern equipment, embracing innovation and strengthening partnerships to meet the waste management needs of Africa’s fastest-growing megacity.
