Governor Biodun Oyebanji has been confirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Ekiti State, following a consensus affirmation exercise held on Monday at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.
The endorsement, which capped weeks of intra-party consultations, was unanimously adopted during a well-attended party meeting in the state capital.Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved the motion for Oyebanji’s adoption, while Rt. Hon. Stephen Aribasoye, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, seconded it, signifying broad support from both legislative arms of government.
Speaking earlier at his Ikogosi-Ekiti ward, where he participated in the APC delegates’ congress conducted across the state on Saturday, Oyebanji said his administration’s performance in the past three years had strengthened the party’s popularity among Ekiti residents, including members of the opposition.
“Our members are happy and united in one accord to exercise their franchise. In all the wards, delegates were elected by consensus, that speaks to the unity between the leadership and membership of the party,” the governor said.
The APC National Working Committee (NWC) had earlier adopted Oyebanji as the party’s consensus candidate after Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo, the only remaining aspirant in the race, voluntarily withdrew. Two other aspirants, Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olawumi, were disqualified during the screening process.
Commending party members for their peaceful conduct during the exercise, Oyebanji described the consensus affirmation as a reflection of the maturity, discipline, and cohesion that define the APC in Ekiti State.
He assured members that his administration would continue to build on the progress recorded so far, promising inclusive governance and policies that would further enhance development and unity across the state.
The affirmation sets the stage for Oyebanji’s bid to secure a second term in office as governor of Ekiti State under the platform of the ruling APC.
