Edo police Command has arrested five persons, including a dethroned traditional ruler for allegedly being in possession of firearms, ammunition and suspected human skull.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed this in a statement.Yamu said that the suspects were arrested after a sting operation by operatives of the command’s Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad, alongside the Anti-Kidnapping Squad on Saturday.
According to him, the operation led to the arrest of the recently dethroned Ohen of Okhoromi, one Ovbokhan Igbinovia Kelvin, 43, Osarodion Omoregie, 41, Charles Otasowei, 55, Edwin Igbinovia, 45, and Osagie Igbinovia, 44.
“The following exhibits; two AK-47 rifles, with breach numbers TH4782 and 6683 respectively, two single barrel locally made shortguns, three empty AK-47 magazines, one OFM magazine, 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and a suspected human skull were recovered from them.
“The exhibits were allegedly recovered from the premises of Ovbokhan Igbinovia Kelvin, the dethroned Ohen of Okhoromi when search was conducted,” he said.
The spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Monday Agbonika, assured the public that investigations were ongoing to apprehend more suspects and recover more weapons.
Yamu said that CP Agbonika vowed to reduce crimes in the state, while appealing to residents of the state to give timely information to the police on suspicious movements, gatherings, groups or persons.
