The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a follow-up operation after securing the safe release of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.
The prince was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. when armed men invaded his residence in Okun Owa and whisked him away.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, directed the immediate activation of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers led to the victim’s safe release on July 3.
Babaseyi said the operatives intensified efforts to track down members of the kidnapping syndicate after the prince regained his freedom.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis, where the suspects opened fire on the police team in a bid to evade arrest.
“The operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds,” he said.
According to him, a search conducted on the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used for collecting ransom, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.
“The corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits,” Babaseyi stated.
The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police commended the courage, professionalism and operational efficiency of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation.
He added that the Command remained committed to identifying, tracking and dismantling criminal networks operating across Ogun State.
“We remain unwavering in our commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained tactical operations aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property across Ogun State. We urge residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with timely and credible information that will assist in combating crime,” Babaseyi said.
He also urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons and activities through the Command’s emergency communication channels, assuring residents that the police would sustain ongoing efforts to rid Ogun State of kidnappers and other violent criminals.
