Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, officially swore in Hon. Olufemi Okeowo as Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), urging him to deepen grassroots governance and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, the Governor charged Okeowo, who is beginning his second term, to build on his past achievements and deliver results that would directly impact the lives of residents in the council.
Okeowo, who won re-election during the council polls held on Saturday, July 12, could not be sworn in with his colleagues on Sunday, July 27, due to ill health.
He has since recovered and is now set to continue steering the affairs of Ifelodun LCDA.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Okeowo’s performance in his first tenure, noting that Ifelodun LCDA, with its large and diverse population, plays a critical role in the state’s development plan.
“We are encouraged by the fact that he did very well in his first tenure. We believe God has given him the power to do more this second term,” the Governor said.
He also urged government officials and stakeholders to give Okeowo the necessary support to succeed, stressing that effective grassroots administration was key to sustaining development across the state.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Bolaji Robert, highlighted the importance of civic engagement, democratic values, and responsible leadership in guiding communities through the electoral process, while expressing optimism that Okeowo’s renewed mandate would further strengthen governance in Ifelodun LCDA.
