The Senate Selection Committee has announced the reconstitution of several standing committees of the 10th Senate, effecting key leadership changes across strategic sectors. The announcement was made by the committee’s chairman and President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during Tuesday’s plenary session.
One of the major adjustments is the appointment of Senator Yahaya Abdullahi from Kebbi State as the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence. Senator Abdullahi previously chaired the Committee on National Planning before the reshuffle.
The Senate Committee on Livestock and Animal Husbandry has also been reconstituted, with Senator Shehu Buba from Bauchi State named its new chairman. His redeployment follows his removal last week as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence.
In a related adjustment, Senator Mustafa Musa from Yobe State has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Planning, succeeding Senator Abdullahi.
The Senate Committee on Air Force has also experienced a leadership shift, with the Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu from Enugu State, taking over as acting chairman. Senator Ngwu previously served as the committee’s deputy chairman. The former chairman, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, is currently indisposed.
The reshuffle marks one of the most significant committee reorganizations since the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, reflecting ongoing adjustments to strengthen legislative oversight across key sectors.
