The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has arrested 75 suspects during a late-night raid along Coastal Road as part of ongoing clean-up and enforcement operations across the metropolis.
This was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab on his social media handle on Thursday.
According to the commissioner, the operation, which began around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, targeted identified black spots along the corridor, leading to the arrest of 68 males and seven females. Substances suspected to be illicit drugs were also recovered during the raid.
Wahab said the exercise was part of efforts to restore order, protect public spaces and improve safety along the Lagos Coastal Road.
“As part of our ongoing clean-up and enforcement operations along Coastal Road, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce carried out a late-night raid targeting identified black spots in the area,” Wahab said.
“During the operation, 75 suspects were arrested, comprising 68 males and seven females, while substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered at the scene.”
He disclosed that one of the officers, Inspector Omosanjo Mohamed, was violently attacked by hoodlums during the operation and sustained a serious head injury.
“In the course of the exercise, one of our officers, Inspector Omosanjo Mohamed, was violently attacked by hoodlums and sustained a serious head injury. He is currently receiving medical treatment,” the commissioner stated.
Condemning the attack, Wahab warned that assaults on law enforcement officers would not be tolerated and vowed to prosecute all suspects arrested during the operation.
“Let me state clearly: attacks on law enforcement officers carrying out lawful duties will not be tolerated,” the statement said.
“All suspects arrested during the raid will face the full weight of the law.”
The commissioner reaffirmed its commitment to sustained enforcement across Lagos to ensure safety and security for residents.
“We remain resolute in restoring order, protecting public spaces, and ensuring that Coastal Road and other parts of Lagos are safe and secure for all law-abiding residents,” he added.
