Residents of communities in Kaduna State can breathe a sigh of relief following the arrest of four suspected bandits by the Nigeria Police Force, in an operation that also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons.
The suspects: Abdumumini Abubakar (40), Maikano Gambo (47), Saleh Thompson (47), and Oyonyi Odango (40), were apprehended on March 7, 2026, in Tayu, Sanga Local Government Area, during an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS).
Items recovered from the suspects include four AK-47 rifles with magazines, 80 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, and a locally fabricated pistol loaded with 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicate that the suspects are linked to banditry and other violent criminal activities that have disrupted peace and livelihoods in parts of the state.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, in a statement on Monday said the operation reflects the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing in tackling insecurity.
“This successful operation underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace in affected communities,” he said.
“For residents who have lived under the constant threat of violence, this development is a clear signal that their safety remains a top priority for the Force.”
He noted that the arrest of the suspects is only one step in a broader effort to root out criminal elements operating within the region.
“Our operatives are intensifying efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of this network and to recover additional weapons that may still be in circulation,” he stated.
Placid further commended the professionalism and courage displayed by the officers involved in the operation.
“The gallantry and dedication exhibited by our personnel in this operation is commendable. Their ability to act swiftly on credible intelligence has once again demonstrated the capacity of the Force to respond effectively to security threats,” he said.
He reassured residents of Kaduna State and Nigerians at large that the police remain resolute in their mission to combat banditry and safeguard lives and property.
“We urge members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information. Security is a collective responsibility, and together, we can rid our communities of criminal elements,” he added.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, also praised the operatives for their efforts, reiterating the Force’s commitment to sustained operations against banditry and related crimes across the country.
