The Delta State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on cultism, illicit arms, and drug-related crimes, announcing the recovery of two pump-action guns, 39 live cartridges, and the arraignment of 18 suspects in separate operations across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Friday, said the operations reflect the Command’s renewed push to dismantle criminal networks under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.
According to Edafe, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, conducted an intelligence-driven raid at No. 2 Umeghe Community, Abraka, on December 6, 2025.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the team executed a coordinated search that led to the recovery of two pump-action guns and thirty-nine live cartridges,” Edafe said, noting that a 67-year-old suspect, Isiakpere Friday, was arrested during the operation.
He added that detectives are probing possible links between the suspect and “cult groups, arms suppliers, and other criminal networks operating within Delta State.”
In a separate operation targeting drug abuse hotspots, operatives of the Command’s Buffalo Unit arrested and arraigned 18 male suspects before a competent court on December 5, 2025.
The arrests followed sustained surveillance and coordinated raids in areas notorious for the sale and distribution of illicit substances, including the Play-Learn zone, Sweet Spirit axis, and Pinnacle Junction.
Those arraigned include: Wisdom Nwanze (38), Godspower Vincent (25), Trust Bobua (17), David Mifford (21), Friday Daniel (35), Emmanuel Dakuru (25), Innatji Ekenea (27), Umar Isah (22), Samuel Hosanna (31), Rabiu Abubakar (31), Dada Usman (22), Dada Usman (20), Danjuma Jonathan (31), Onyeka Solomon (16), Garba Abdullaman (20), Rolniho Paul (26), Abwal Clarius (30), and Aliyu Abubarka (22).
The court ordered their remand in prison custody pending the fulfilment of bail conditions.
Commending the operatives, SP Edafe quoted CP Abaniwonda as reiterating the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations across Delta State.
“The Commissioner of Police has made it clear that the Command will not tolerate cultism, arms trafficking, illicit drug sales, or any conduct that threatens public peace,” Edafe stated.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. “Community support remains crucial. We encourage the public to continue providing credible information that can help the Police maintain safety across the state,” he said.
