The Delta State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a fleeing suspect linked to the murder of retired High Court judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwo, whose lifeless body was found in her Asaba residence on November 24, 2025.
A statement issued by SP Edafe Bright, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, said the incident was reported by the deceased’s brother, who discovered her body in the sitting room with her hands, legs and mouth tied.
Bright explained that the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, immediately mobilised officers to the scene upon receiving the complaint.
“The corpse was evacuated and taken to the mortuary for autopsy. One suspect, Lucky Matthew, has been arrested, while the principal suspect, Godwin Vanem, is presently at large,” he said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (Homicide Section) for a thorough and discreet investigation.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the said Godwin Vanem is suspected to have committed the dastardly act and fled the apartment. The command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect,” Bright stated.
The Commissioner of Police extended condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of justice.
“The command deeply sympathises with the family of the deceased and assures them that every effort is being made to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” Bright added.
He urged members of the public with useful information that could assist the investigation to contact the police through the command’s emergency lines.
