The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Funsho Adegboye to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
A statement issued on Thursday by the PSC’s spokesman, Torty Kalu, also confirmed the elevation of Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
The statement said the promotions were ratified during the Commission’s third Plenary Meeting, chaired by DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), and followed a rigorous merit-based process that included written examinations and oral interviews.
“In a landmark decision reflecting its commitment to career progression, the Commission approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II, based on their outstanding performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination,” the statement added.
Before his elevation, Funsho Adegboye served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. He has held numerous command positions, including Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in Homicide, the Force Intelligence Department, and Edo State Command. Adegboye has also participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.
Danjuma Aboki, until his promotion, served as the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Imo State Police Command, while Dansabo Idi was the Acting Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning at Force Headquarters, Abuja. Idi’s career includes postings as Divisional Police Officer in Kebbi and Kaduna states, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch in Kebbi, Area Commander in multiple locations, Commander of the 63 Police Mobile Force in Ikorodu, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for Zone 1 Lagos, and Commissioner of Police at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Chairman Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency and merit-based promotions. He urged the officers to view their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility and service.
He also commended the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, led by DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), for its role in overseeing the examinations and interviews that informed the promotions.
