President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge in Lagos, a major infrastructure project expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across key commercial corridors in the state.
The project was commissioned on behalf of the President by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who described the bridge as a strategic intervention designed to tackle persistent gridlock and enhance mobility within the metropolis.
Developed under the administration of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the bridge forms a key component of the state’s THEMES+ Agenda, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernise transport infrastructure and support the city’s rapid urban growth.
Constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the multi-billion-naira project was delivered in under two years, underscoring the state government’s push for timely execution of critical infrastructure.
The new link is expected to provide alternative routes for motorists plying traffic-heavy areas such as Opebi, Allen Avenue and Maryland, while offering a more direct connection to Ojota and adjoining parts of Ikeja.
Officials say the bridge will reduce travel time, ease pressure on existing road networks and improve overall traffic circulation within Lagos, particularly in densely populated and commercially active districts.
Speaking at the commissioning, government representatives highlighted the broader economic impact of the project, noting that improved connectivity would facilitate the smoother movement of people, goods and services across major business hubs.
The development is part of a wider infrastructure expansion drive by the Lagos State Government, which includes ongoing investments in projects such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system.
Authorities maintain that sustained investment in transport infrastructure remains critical to positioning Lagos as a resilient, globally competitive megacity capable of supporting economic growth and urban efficiency.
