The Lagos State Government is set to launch a new initiative aimed at returning out-of-school children to classrooms across the state.
The programme, known as the Lagos Education Access Fund (LEAF), is being implemented through the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board in collaboration with its strategic partner, the Education Outcomes Fund (EOF).
The initiative is designed to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children in Lagos State by providing targeted support that will enable vulnerable children to re-enter the formal education system.
According to the organisers, the Lagos Education Access Fund will offer assistance to disadvantaged children and their families, giving them renewed opportunities to access quality education and build a better future.
The programme is expected to serve as a strategic intervention that addresses barriers preventing many children from enrolling or remaining in school.
Officials said the launch event will convene key stakeholders in the education sector, including policymakers, development partners and education experts, to discuss the implementation framework and long-term objectives of the initiative.
The initiative also enjoys support from global partners including the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, the UBS Optimus Foundation, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is expected to grace the occasion, while the Chief Executive Officer of the Education Outcomes Fund, Amel Karboul, will attend as Special Guest.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, will serve as Chief Host, while the Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, will host the event.
The official launch ceremony is scheduled to take place at the State House Marina on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 6 p.m.
Education stakeholders say the introduction of the Lagos Education Access Fund represents another step in the state government’s efforts to strengthen basic education delivery and ensure that every child, regardless of background, has access to learning opportunities.
