Christian leaders in Lagos on Tuesday endorsed the candidature of Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state.
The endorsement followed a meeting held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja, where the leaders said both spiritual and physical consultations informed their decision.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Chairman of the Christian NGO Coordinating Group, comprising over 50 Christian organisations across Lagos, Rev. (Dr.) Sam Olufemi Ogedengbe, said there was a need for continuity in governance, noting that Hamzat had demonstrated capacity as a grassroots leader.
He added that members of the group, drawn from various communities including rural areas, were united in their position after what he described as divine direction.
“Having received clarity that he is the right choice for the state, the group is prepared to support him financially, morally and spiritually to actualise his ambition,” Ogedengbe said.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the group, Archbishop Kayode Williams, said the endorsement followed a long period of engagement with multiple aspirants.
He explained that while the group initially considered several contenders, Hamzat emerged as the most preferred and qualified candidate after careful evaluation.
The Christian NGO Coordinating Group said it would mobilise its members across the state in support of Hamzat’s governorship bid.
