The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to advancing criminal justice reforms and strengthening constitutional policing, while seeking deeper collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association to improve justice delivery and safeguard citizens’ rights.
Disu stated this on Tuesday when he received a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) led by its President, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the police and the legal profession as part of efforts to enhance the administration of justice and promote public confidence in the criminal justice system.
The NBA delegation included Abdul Mohammed (SAN), First Vice President Sabastine Anya, General Secretary Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, Chief of Staff Barbara Omosun, NBA Assistant Executive Director Salamatu Sidi, Etaba Agbor and Isaac Aduloju.
Speaking during the visit, Osigwe commended the Inspector-General for ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening professionalism and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
He also reaffirmed the association’s readiness to support initiatives that promote justice, the rule of law and improved service delivery across the country.
“The Nigerian Bar Association remains committed to supporting measures that strengthen the administration of justice, uphold the rule of law and improve service delivery within the justice sector,” Osigwe was quoted as saying.
The NBA President further extended an invitation to the Nigeria Police Force to participate in the association’s forthcoming Annual General Conference.
Responding, the Inspector-General reiterated the Force’s commitment to constitutional policing and adherence to due process in the discharge of its responsibilities.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to constitutional policing, respect for fundamental rights and adherence to due process in all its operations,” Disu said.
The police chief stressed that stronger engagement between law enforcement agencies and legal practitioners was essential to building a more effective and accountable criminal justice system.
He noted that sustained collaboration among stakeholders in the justice sector would help promote accountability, protect citizens’ rights and improve access to justice.
“Effective collaboration among justice sector stakeholders remains critical to promoting accountability, protecting the rights of citizens and improving access to justice for all,” the IGP stated.
According to Iniedu, Disu also reaffirmed the Force’s determination to continue implementing reforms aimed at improving professionalism, operational standards and public trust in policing.
The statement added that the Nigeria Police Force remains focused on enhancing service delivery, strengthening public confidence and ensuring that policing activities are carried out in line with established laws and global best practices.
